The technology is more reliable and cost-effective than other sensor approaches, and safer and faster than manual searches.
MicroSearch® is available in a Wired Configuration, a Wireless Configuration, and a Contactless Configuration and can be operated in two modes: Standard and Enhanced.
The Standard Mode employs two Vehicle Sensors and a single Ground Sensor. The Enhanced Mode employs two Vehicle Sensors and three Ground Sensors, which is particularly well suited for the harshest of environments where ground vibration can interfere with detection results.
How MicroSearch Works
MicroSearch Enhanced Wired Sensors, Control Box and Laptop with Spare Vehicle and Ground Sensor
MicroSearch includes a computer, digital control box, two small vehicle sensors or either one or three ground sensors, and cables.
The magnetic vehicle sensors, when placed on a vehicle or a container, determine whether a human is inside without the time-consuming and expensive task of unloading and inspecting the entire vehicle or container. The ground sensors mitigate any nearby environmental vibrations for increased accuracy. The sensors, similar to those used to measure earthquakes, measure the small movement or vibrations created by the heartbeat pumping blood moving through the human body. These vibrations are transmitted to a vehicle’s frame and suspension system. Patented MicroSearch software analyzes these vibrations in real time and determines quickly if an individual is present or not and alerts the operator.
Optional wireless vehicle and ground sensors (with receivers) offer the same reliability and accuracy as wired sensors and offer improved flexibility and convenience.
Recent technological advances in our MicroSearch vehicle sensor capabilities allow us to offer a vehicle sensor that is contactless, requiring no direct contact with the vehicle being inspected. This provides an enhanced level of officer safety during the inspection process and reduces officer footprint at the inspection site.

Q: What is MicroSearch® and how does it work?
A: MicroSearch is one-of-a-kind human presence detection system that detects humans hiding in vehicles or shipping containers loaded on vehicles. MicroSearch consists of a computer, a digital control box, two small vehicle sensors and 1-3 ground sensors. The magnetic vehicle sensors, when placed on a vehicle or container, determine whether a human is inside without the time consuming and expensive task of unloading the entire vehicle or container. The sensors measure the small vibrations created by a human heartbeat pumping blood through the body. MicroSearch software analyzes these vibrations in real time and determines quickly if an individual is present and alerts the operator.
Q: How much time does it take to find out if a person is hiding in a truck or container?
A: Once the MicroSearch system is set up, the test itself takes anywhere from as little as 20 seconds to no more than one minute to determine if a human is in a truck or container. The MicroSearch software analyzes the vibrations from a human heartbeat and then sends a signal to the MicroSearch computer indicating the presence of a human being in the truck or container.
Q: Does the MicroSearch system require someone to inspect the truck or container?
A: Using the MicroSearch system will only require the placement of a sensor on the outside of a vehicle or container. No internal inspection of the vehicle is necessary. And to create an additional level of safety for our customers, MicroSearch offers a contactless vehicle sensor for human detection. This new system does not require the attachment of sensors to a vehicle, only placement of the contactless vehicle sensors below the vehicle. This will require less staff to conduct an inspection and provides an additional level of safety and security for the inspecting officers.
