ENSCO will present new technology focused on helping railways expand inspection coverage and identify potential risks earlier at the AREMA 2026 Annual Conference & Expo. The event takes place Sept. 13-16 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Throughout the conference, ENSCO engineers will deliver three technical presentations examining practical approaches to railway condition monitoring and inspection. Fiber-Optic Intelligence: Tracking Wheel Defects and Derailments Using a Distributed Acoustic Sensing System
Tuesday, Sept. 15 | 9:15-9:45 a.m.
Md. Fazle Rabbi, a Railway Research Engineer at ENSCO, and Roman Wilhelm, of AP Sensing GmbH, will share results from controlled testing at the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) Transportation Technology Center (TTC), operated by ENSCO. The research evaluates how Distributed Acoustic Sensing can use trackside fiber-optic cable to detect vibration signatures associated with abnormal train operations, wheel defects and derailment events.

Increasing Ultrasonic Rail Flaw Inspection Line Speeds to 50 mph on Busy Corridors
Tuesday, Sept. 15 | 12:10-12:40 p.m.
Alex Seredich, ENSCO’s Vice President of Rail Product Delivery & Software Solutions, and Michael DeLibero, Ultrasonic Technologies Manager at ENSCO, will discuss using rail-bound ultrasonic inspection to detect internal rail defects at speeds up to 50 mph, providing another option for inspection on corridors where available track time is limited.

Assessing Track Gage Strength Through Non-Contact Measurements
Wednesday, Sept. 16 | 8:30-9 a.m.
Chaitanya Yavvari, ENSCO’s Staff Software Engineer for Machine Vision and Signal Processing (MVSP), and Dan Einbinder, a Senior Research Engineer at ENSCO, will present research into using machine vision and machine learning as a non-contact method for screening track gage strength across a railway network.
