Newark, DE – December 10, 2025
ENSCO will present new research in big data analytics, AI inspection systems, and data-driven railway asset management at the 2025 Big Data Conference, held December 10-11 at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. ENSCO is a Platinum Sponsor of the event. The conference brings together leaders in rail research, data science, machine vision, and automated inspection to discuss technologies that are transforming network safety and maintenance efficiency.
ENSCO researchers will deliver two technical presentations on Wednesday, December 10.
At 1 p.m., ENSCO will present “Track Strength Assessment Through Big Data and Machine Vision,” delivered by Daniel Einbinder and Donald Cooper (paper authors: Daniel Einbinder, Donald Cooper, and Chaitanya Yavvari). The session outlines an FRA–ENSCO joint initiative that uses machine-vision imagery and continuous measurement data from inspection vehicles to evaluate lateral track strength. The work demonstrates how complex inspection datasets can be converted into actionable assessments of structural performance for more cost-effective maintenance planning.
At 3:30 p.m., ENSCO will present “AI Powered Rail Surface Inspection: From Raw Images to Predictive Insights,” delivered by Cheng Chen and Chaitanya Yavvari (paper authors: Cheng Chen, Chaitanya Yavvari, Bin Guo, and Sam Kirkpatrick). The presentation introduces the AI-driven Rail Surface Imaging System and the data-refinement pipeline that transforms large volumes of imagery into real-time predictive intelligence, giving railways earlier visibility into defect formation and improving inspection efficiency.
“ENSCO’s continued investment in automation, machine learning and big data analytics supports the rail industry’s priority of improving safety, reducing service disruptions and strengthening maintenance productivity,” said Jackie van der Westhuizen, Vice President of ENSCO’s Surface Transportation Group. “The research showcased at the Big Data Conference reflects ENSCO’s mission to deliver efficient, reliable and cost-effective technologies that help operators identify risk earlier and optimize asset management programs.”
