ENSCO is proud to support community efforts that inspire the next generation of IT professionals. That’s why on Wednesday, Jan. 11, ENSCO President Jeff Stevens and our cyber expert Chris Depa met with the newly formed information technology club, This is IT! That night, 24 high school students and their parents from Warren County gathered at the Samuels Public Library in Front Royal, Virginia to hear IT experts speak about their experiences in the IT world and gain insights into what a career in that industry looks like.
Jeff began the evening with an introduction for attendees followed by an exciting presentation by Chris, titled “From Gamer to Cyber Defender.” In his remarks Chris recounted his unique journey from a teenage professional gamer, to working at the MDA, and later joining ENSCO, plus his many other accomplishments along the way. The group also discussed ENSCO’s award winning internship program, which was recently named one of the top 100 in the country.
“It’s important that business and education work together to mentor students interests by transferring our knowledge to the next generation and providing information on potential careers pathways to obtain them,” said Chris. “Not only does this increase the capacity in the occupational talent pipeline that are needed to fill high demand jobs but it can alter the life trajectory for large groups of students looking for guidance.”
Jeff and Chris were among nine ENSCO employees who attended this meeting. Throughout the year, This is IT will provide students with exclusive opportunities to explore more of the IT industry, with hands-on experiences as well as lectures from local professionals.
