Comparing track geometry test data over time is very helpful in determining the actual conditions of track and how that track is performing in the field. However, running comparisons of data has only been possible for short sections of track until now. ENSCO has developed the Virtual Car system to allow railroads to compare the structure of complete track geometry tests. Areas that exceed threshold values are marked for investigation by inspectors.
Virtual Car is based on research sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and ENSCO’s internal research and development.
