ENSCO Hosts Educators’ Day in the Workplace

Springfield, Va., March 17, 2008 — ENSCO’s Springfield, Va., office yesterday hosted Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) teachers, counselors, and administrators for FCPS Educators' Day in the Workplace. Engineers and scientists from the several of ENSCO’s Divisions volunteered their time to share their educational paths and career experiences.

ENSCO Educators Day-DemoEducators' Day in the Workplace is designed to provide educators with a greater understanding of the workplace, identify skills needed for success, and offer ideas for teachers to effectively prepare students to be productive citizens. Studies show increased student achievement when there is a strong emphasis on the connections between school and work.

Knowing that math and science are critical areas for the FCPS educators and their students, ENSCO scientists highlighted their advanced technology projects and emphasized their own math and science education. Among these projects were ENSCO’s sensor integration applications and ENSCO’s hi-railer, a road truck converted to drive both on the road and on the rails, and loaded with high-tech equipment to inspect railroads.

“This event is very important in that it gives teachers and faculty an insight into the growing technology and engineering fields. The event also adds visibility to ENSCO’s mentoring and intern opportunities. The hope is that many young individuals will see the link between academic preparation and career paths,” said Senior Technical Recruiter Mark Agutter.

“As a corporation, ENSCO takes pride in supporting its community schools and encouraging a career in science, engineering and technology. Participation in community events also enhances ENSCO’s recognition. We are very excited about this opportunity to support Educator’s Day and are looking forward to supporting other community events in the future at all of our locations,” shares ENSCO’s Director of Recruiting Tammy Farnham.
