New Manager of ENSCO FRA OMI&A Contract Comes from Within

On April 26, ENSCO announced the promotion of Eric Sherrock to Program Manager within the Applied Technology and Engineering (ATE) Division. Eric is replacing long time ENSCO employee, Gary Carr, who ENSCO proudly reports has taken a position at the FRA. Eric will be stepping into Mr. Carr’s shoes as the manager of the Operations, Maintenance, Instrumentation and Analysis contract awarded by the FRA.

Mr. Sherrock will oversee all aspects of the FRA OMI&A contract and support railroad safety research and services. Eric’s promotion reflects ENSCO’s dedication to employees. Eric responds that he is eager to meet the challenges of maintaining ENSCO’s tradition of supporting the FRA’s research and development efforts while at the same time developing new and innovative approaches to meeting the critical needs of the FRA and the rest of the railroad industry.

ENSCO and the OMI&A Contract

ENSCO has managed the OMI&A contract for nearly 31 years. And, Eric has worked under the OMI&A contract in a variety of roles for the past 11 years.  In that time, the FRA and ENSCO have worked together to bring dozens of innovations to rail safety. In the last several years, the OMI&A contract has produced the Joint Bar Inspection system and the VTI (Vehicle/Track Interaction) Monitor. These two new products have helped bring efficiency and automation to rail inspection. “Our goal is the FRA’s goal — rail safety. Where possible we try to create technology that will aid the jobs of the inspectors, create efficiencies and inject automation where needed,” said Eric Sherrock.

The impact of the technologies brought forth by the OMI&A contract has ushered in a new era in rail safety. With the T16 and T18, the inspection vehicles built by ENSCO and that are operated/maintained under the OMI&A contract, technology has been the driving force relieving the laborious burdens put on inspecting each foot of track across the nation. Rather than walking each foot of track, inspection vehicles (or geometry cars) are able to inspect thousands of miles of track each year at track speeds, “The OMI&A contract is exciting for ENSCO because we’re excited by these advances; we are motivated to keep innovating for the FRA. It’s what ENSCO does. As the company mantra goes: Innovation Starts Here,” said Mr. Sherrock.
