Inertial Navigation & Tracking

ENSCO GPS-Denied GeoNav Inertial Navigation and TrackingInertial navigation technology provides a passive self-contained tracking and location solution for GPS-denied environments. Experts in custom geolocation and tracking solutions, ENSCO has developed sophisticated modeling tools and Kalman filter algorithms that deliver performance levels comparable to expensive navigation-grade inertial measurement units (IMUs) while using significantly less expensive tactical and industrial-grade IMUs.

Sensor Positioning for UXO Detection

ENSCO GPS-Denied GeoNav Sensor Positioning for UXO Detection, Firefighter Sensor TrackingENSCO has developed self-contained geophysical data acquisition systems for use in unreliable GPS environments based on tactical-grade inertial navigation technology.  Providing precise positioning in subterranean and urban environments, these systems integrate inertial measurement units (IMU) such as the Geometrics G-858 magnetometer or Honeywell HG1900, GPS and digital magnetic compass. Navigation algorithms are based on measuring acceleration and rotation rates provided by accelerometers and gyroscopes, respectively, in the IMU. Data from the sensors are numerically integrated to provide continuous estimates of position, orientation, and velocity. When integrated with a commercially available EM-61 metal detector, field demonstrations produced UXO detection with a UXO location accuracy of less than five mm.

First Responder Tracking

ENSCO GPS-Denied GeoNav Inertial Navigation First Responder TrackingCurrently, there is no accurate way to locate first responders at the scene of fires, explosions, subterranean environments, and other disasters and lead them to safety. ENSCO is developing its Dalmatian technology to track and locate first responders. The system is an accurate, self-contained indoor navigation system that benefits from advanced filtering and sensor fusion with or without the aid of GPS or other Radio Frequency (RF) systems.

Dalmatian exploits industrial grade inertial measurement units (IMUs), magnetic sensors and unconventional data analysis. In addition to walking, Dalmatian has been designed to support the varied methods of movements the first responder employs to complete the mission, including climbing stairs and ladders, crawling, sidestepping and running. The system is targeted for real-time meter-level position accuracy after 15 minutes of free navigation.
